Toni Tió i Sauleda, Executive President of the Barcelona Cluster Nautic and one of the best valued figures in the Spanish maritime industry, was born in Sant Pol de Mar (Maresme, Barcelona) in 1949. He studied at the School of Engineers of Barcelona and in 1973 he went to La Rochelle (France), where he worked at Cheret Voiles and learned how to design and manufacture sails. Four years later he moved to Munich, Germany, and worked at North Sails, and shortly afterwards, in 1978, he returned to Catalonia to found his own sailmaking company, Toni Tió Velas, which he directed until the year 2010. From 2010 to 2013 he was Technical Advisor of North Sails Spain in Barcelona. In May of 2013 he was appointed Executive President of the Barcelona Cluster Nautic, officially constituted in October of that year, position that occupies at present. He has been a member of the Organizing Committee of the Barcelona International Boat Show since 1979 and, since 2005, a member of the board of Real Club Náutico de Barcelona. He has been 13 years in the Organizing Committee of the Copa del Rey, which organizes the Real Club Nautico de Palma. From 1978 to 1995 he was president of the Sant Pol de Mar Yacht Club. Apart from his corporate and institutional sides, as a sailor he has won some of the most important regattas in the national and international scene, such as the Swan Cup, the Conde de Godó Trophy, the Zegna Trophy and the Copa del Rey. In addition, as a sailmaker, he holds nine Olympic medals.
